Flowering bulb (0.2m x 0.1m) from southern Europe, North Africa and Asia. Light green strap-like waxy linear to oblong leaves. Cup shaped flowers in various shades of red, pink, purple or yellow on mostly leafless stems in spring. Useful for colour display, planted in groups, drifts or containers. Prefers well drained friable soil. Lift when foliage has died down. Clean and store until following autumn. Chill for 6-8 weeks prior to replanting in late autumn. Mulch with organic matter and fertilise fortnightly. Flowers sensitive to late frost.
