Gleditsia trianthos

This is a fine, spreading tree from North America. The spines are branched and its leaves are glossy, light green in spring, dark green in summer and about 25cm long. The leaves turn yellow in autumn and have many leaflets. Seed pods are sickle-shaped and about 45cm long, these are borne in autumn. Gleditsia trianthos is slow growing to about 6m tall and 10m wide.
