Wide-spreading shrub with spiny branches. Leaves are oval, glossy, dark green and roughly 4-9cm long. Clusters of 2 to 4 flowers are borne in spring and these are scarlet to crimson coloured. The flowers are followed by fuit (roughly 6cm long), green-yellow in colour. Chaenomeles speciosa grows to about 2.5m tall and 5m wide. It loves the sun, and tolerates semi-shade. This plant is incredibly water-wise, once established.The fruit can be used to make a jelly or paste.
